Theory

"The Abstraction of Ambient Light in Post-Modernity"

Inspired by contemporary architecture and the study of Louis Kahn in ARCH 1121 (excerpt below), I wanted to further explore the physical refraction and figurative abstraction of light in Experiment 3. Focusing on how textured glass surfaces interact with sunlight and what effect this has on the ambience of a space. 

Excerpt from my W9 ARCH 1121 Essay:


Kahn in his theories about light accentuates how technology has altered the possibilities of design for architects [1]. Kahn elevates “the window” as “most marvellous element in a room.” [2] The capacity to set the “range of mood offered from morning to night” [2] empowers Kahn to be able to entirely control the atmosphere of a space.
